MySpace between developers and angry users

MySpace tries to wake up and keep its leader position, by opening its doors to the developers, as did Facebook and many other social networks. Beginning with next week, on February 5, the site will become fully operational with documentation and API tools for developers to build and test applications for MySpace.

“This gives developers deeper access to our community through APIs so they’ll be able to build richer applications and also gives them an opportunity to build their business directly on MySpace. It’s a natural step in the evolution of how we’ve worked with third party developers,” said Amit Kapur, the new chief operating officer.

MySpace Platform will help developers monetize their MySpace Platform applications, will support OpenSocial, and will try to prevent third parties from monetizing MySpace widgets and sucking out traffic.

But MySpace have to face with a new problem these days, because from more to more users complain of too much and too aggressive ads, as well as the abundance of spam, and intend to delete their accounts. Yesterday was declared the International Delete Your MySpace Account Day, as a protest of some users.

Owens

“After months of only visiting my myspace (sic) profile in order to delete spam friend requests from half-nude women, I’ve reached the end of the line,” wrote Owens in his original declaration.
