Romanian gamers complain against Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo WII

Gaming consoles

The Romanian gaming community is complaining against the discrimination of the manufacturers of the game consoles Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo WII that, although Romania is member of the European Union, the Romanian gamers do not benefit by the full online services and support for which they paid. They require to be enabled the full online services as for the other countries.

Here it is the online petition:

To: MICROSOFT CORPORATION, SONY CORPORATION, NINTENDO and EUROPEAN UNION REPRESENTATIVESWe, the ROMANIAN owners of gaming consoles, related products and services offered by MICROSOFT CORPORATION, SONY CORPORATION and NINTENDO, as full rights members of EUROPEAN UNION and users of the products and services you sold us, we kindly plead you to consider our petition for enabling full online services and support for ROMANIA. Through this document, we would like to request to be treated according to the EUROPEAN UNION laws, as equals in rights with all the other member countries where these services are available.

The products named here as MICROSOFT XBOX 360, SONY PLAYSTATION 3 and NINTENDO WII you sold us and are still selling in ROMANIA, like in any other European country, come with no warnings that the products bought have no support at all in our country. Therefore we would like to benefit from the full online services we paid for.

Dear EUROPEAN UNION REPRESENTATIVES, as members of the EUROPEAN UNION, we would like to petition for full rights as everyone else and be able to use the online services and support for the products we paid for. None of the three products named above allow us to use it online in ROMANIA, as there is no such support, although most of us have paid for a product or service that gives us one month, three months, six months or unlimited access to online services. Most of us have bought products (software and hardware) that require a connection to XBOX LIVE or PLAYSTATION STORE, which is impossible as there is no such service for ROMANIA.

Dear representatives at MICROSOFT, SONY and NINTENDO, when the products named above were launched, you promised us an experience like never seen before, with online multiplayer, online chat, online tournaments, news, downloads, updates and online support. How can we have that unbelievable experience if you don’t allow us to access those services?

So, we, the ROMANIAN owners of products you sold us, kindly ask you to give us what we paid for. We ask for nothing more than what you promised when we bought your products. We honestly believe this is a win-win situation for all of us. And as a proof to you that we are not just 5 or 10 people, we will sign below.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and listening to the gaming community from ROMANIA.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

I’ve bought a XBOX360 as a xmas present, unpleasent … I’ve tried to purchase microsoft points from xbox website just to find out Romania is not a supported country!!! I’ve found a work arround using a 3rd party website and managed to purchase 4200 points just to find out that the only decent game I could get from MarketPlace is Indigo Profecy which was designed for the old XBOX and doesn’t have the falvores of XBOX 360. In Romania a XBOX 360 game is three times more expensive than in other countries. The game offer is very limited as well. Now I’m thinking to risk my warranty and hack it as Amazon UK doesn’t deliver games to Romania. I’ve always purchased games for my PC but now I’m in the very difficult position of choosing to move to the dark side only because I find it stupid to pay as much as a XBOX 360 console for every 2 games I purchase. Microsoft should control this market better and add the needed suport for Romania as well…

I completly agree with this petition because there should be equality for all people, no matter what country they are in. But mostly because Romania is a very poor country therefore, not only can the people barely afford it but the prices for the Xbox can be up to 2x as high. so after all this money that we pay, we expect to be able to play with all of our friends and enjoy the games to their fullest extent, as is boasted in Microsofts commercials.

Playstation is the best gaming console that i have owned. Me and my brother are addicted in playing games on Playstation.`”*

Well done! I’m a PS3 owner as well and I was very sad to see that romanians even though they pay like everybody else for their consoles, do not have the same rights.

    I totally agree!
Moreover, it should be mentioned that all these products are sold as a higher price in the Romanian stores than in their originating countries and/or even other EU member countries.
We would expect the price to be according to the hardware, software and services sold. As the services are not provided, the price should be at least 30% off.
As for the software, there is another discriminatory issue, at least for Sony PS3: the system languages list doesn’t include Romanian as an option.
I bought my PS3 reading on the box that I’ll be able to download a few free games, themes and other free content. Well, the only free content I got was the registration of my NetworkID, which actually just wanted to identify me as Romanian and ban me from all those free services. I feel frustrated and exploited.
Shame on you big corporations as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo! Shame on you EU commisaries, paid by all of us to protect and enforce your EU members rights!
    21st century ridiculous shame!
