Replacing the thousands of social networks with a single big social network? No, but a golden mine, maybe the best service of Google for me and my 287 web sites and tens of blogs, every one with its own users till now.

So, from now on any of us can have his own social network, using Google Friend Connect. In order to become a social site, you have to add a snippet of code, picking and choosing from built-in functionality like user registration, invitations, members gallery, message posting, and reviews, as well as third-party applications built by the OpenSocial developer community. This way, your visitors will be able to see, invite, and interact with new friends, or, using secure authorization APIs, with existing friends from social sites on the web, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more.

“Google Friend Connect is about helping the ‘long tail’ of sites become more social,” said David Glazer, a director of engineering at Google. “Many sites aren’t explicitly social and don’t necessarily want to be social networks, but they still benefit from letting their visitors interact with each other. That used to be hard. Fortunately, there’s an emerging wave of social standards — OpenID, OAuth, OpenSocial, and the data access APIs published by Facebook, Google, MySpace, and others. Google Friend Connect builds on these standards to let people easily connect with their friends, wherever they are on the web, making ‘any app, any site, any friends’ a reality.”

Google promises for site owners a better traffic (people will bring their friends with them and can opt-in to publish their activities on those sites back into their social network, attracting even more visitors), an increase in user engagement (more interesting content and richer social experiences by using OpenSocial applications), and less work by implementing social components without hiring a programming team or becoming a social network.

TechCrunch give us details after Erick Shonfeld talked with Google engineering director David Glazer: ” …if you go to a Website that is part of Friend Connect, you will be able to sign in under your Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, Orkut, or Plaxo IDs (you choose which one you want to sign in under, with more options coming). Then you authorize the site to go out and retrieve your friend’s list from that network. Any of those friends who also happen to be members of the site you are on will then show up and you can interact with them.”

Let’s start!, I told myself. And I pushed the button “Sign-up for preview release“. A new window, with an online form. I filled it and pushed the Submit button. Inside AdWords blog posted an article about an additional factor incorporated into Quality Score, the time it takes for a user to see the landing page after clicking an ad (to download the HTML content of the landing page). In the future, the load time of images, flash, video, JavaScript, and other components will be considered as well.

The load time evaluations will be displayed on the Keyword Analysis page, allowing the evaluation and understanding of this information.

Starting with the middle of June, the landing page load time will be incorporated into the Quality Score.

There are still some specific situation to be take into consideration. Like, for ex., the web sites designed for broadband. And, what about some Google html codes incorporated in the web sites, like Google Analytics and Google AdSense ads, that it seems that have an important contribution in slowing the landing page?

Anyway, we have to pay much more attention in optimizing the web pages from now on, and this is a very good news for the visitors.

A very interesting list of the highest paid keywords for the Google AdSense and other affiliate programs for publicists. Unfortunately, I cannot use it. Simple, because I do not fully trust it.

From far, the best paid keywords seems to be related on “mesothelioma”.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs.

From Google Keywords Tools, the top related keywords for mesothelioma are:

1. abdominal mesothelioma
2. asbestos mesothelioma
3. asbestosis mesothelioma
4. benign mesothelioma
5. malignant mesothelioma
6. malignant pleural mesothelioma
7. mesothelioma

This is not the same list with the one found on Internet:

1. mesothelioma treatment options
2. mesothelioma risk
3. mesothelioma survival rate
4. treatment of mesothelioma
5. mesothelioma article
6. new york mesothelioma
7. epithelioid mesothelioma

And, I do not understand why this specific cancer and not any other would be the most important for advertisers.

The second best paid keyword is “personal injury”. Google shows that the most important for advertiser competition is “atlanta personal injury lawyer”, while the list shows “personal injury lawyer michigan”. This is possible to be OK, every month the location for the best paid such keywords it is possible to change.

But, after mesothelioma, the most important keywords based on the number of derivate expressions included in the list, is “car insurance”. First five keywords based on Google for advertiser competiton are:

2. affordable car insurance
3. alabama car insurance
4. american car insurance
5. arizona car insurance ,

while the list considers the following

Here it is the list of the best paid keywords, as published by Cyber Wyre (the best price is for “mesothelioma treatment options”, $69.1, and the lowest price included in the list is for “free credit report com”, $31.37). Besides, several keywords are listed in different positions with different prices, so I would be reticent in using it. But, anyway, it still is a very good tool for the publishers.
